Vitor Kenzo Shibata

In an Era of fast-fashion, careless and narcissistic consumerism and ruthless industrial practices, to see a young designer interpellate for conscious cognizance of our destructive patterns is, to say the least, revivifying.
In his mesmerizing collection “Entropy”, designer Vitor Kenzo Shibata explores unorthodox, inventive and ingenious methods to develop wondrous materials out of completely biodegradable feedstocks.
Inspired by the conception of the Anthropocene, he assembles a cohesive and lyrical narrative of both a planet befouled by it’s own inhabitants, and hope.
As alluringly unblemished earthly tones meet seductively besmirched surfaces, we witness geometrical, yet sinuous shapes and proportions take form. Artistic, yet ergonomic. Melancholic, yet optimistic.
The Anthropocene is the most recent geological Era in the history of the planet. Some scientific sources date it’s beginning back to 8.000bC with the advent of agriculture, whilst others don’t acknowledge it to fully characterize itself until the end of the XVIIIth century. Either way, it permeates the significant impact of devastation human activities exert over the many global ecosystems.
By articulating raw materials such as gelatin biopolymer and agar surfaces, Shibata apostrophyzes the urge to adopt new, harmless and waste-free practices.
His handbags and some of his accessories are graciously manufactured with a sublime vegetable leather, splendidly made out of peels of cucurbits (melons).

Ghandi said “What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one-another”.
Touché!
The Earth - and humanity- hold Shibata’s contribution in the highest of regards!
